Questions for the movie Precious
What were the factors that contributed to Precious having low self-esteem?
Things that contributed to Precious having low self esteem is that she was sexually and physically abuse, obesity, imprisonment, solitude, illiterate, she is always criticized by her mother and was denied loved and attention when she was a child.

What signs of low self-esteem did Precious display?
A sign of low self esteem that Precious display is that she is quiet, don’t socialize, walk with her head down, she thinks negatively and she is very depressed.

What defense mechanisms did Precious use to avoid dealing with pain? Give examples.
Precious uses many defense mechanisms such as denial and sublimation. In some ways she used denial because at the beginning she could face that she was abused and didn’t have help from nobody until later. She used sublimation because she got pregnant by her father. Many girls would abort. She took good care of her child and never thought that it was a product of an abuse.

What neurotic needs did Precious over-use or display? Give examples.
Neurotic needs that Precious over used or display is that she restricts one’s life into narrow border. For instances when she was sexually and physically abused by her father and mother respectively, she never seek help from the outside, she stay at her home if like nothing happened to her. she never valued herself until later in the movie.

What helped Precious increase her self-esteem?
Things that helped Precious increase her self esteem is that she became enrolled in education, help from the social worker, care and understanding from her teacher,

What signs of higher/increasing self-esteem did Precious display?
Signs of higher self esteem that Precious display is that she started to take care of herself – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, start manage her life responsibly, she demonstrated self-respect, self-confidence, and self-acceptance.

What did you learn from the movie?
I learn from the movie that you should never give up no matter what the condition is. You should always find options to come out of that problem.

Would you recommend the movie to others? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend the movie to others for them to see how life is hard and lets them know that they should appreciate for what they have because other people don’t have what you have.

    You have a good understanding of the concepts of self-esteem and of the way it was displayed in the movie. If you would have done this assignment on time, you probably would have gotten full or almost full points. You have the ability to do well, but for a reason only you know, choose not to. I suggest you put your effort into studying for the test and final exam. Very high marks is the only way you will pass this class.
